This actually pisses me off to no end. What the select few Muslims did in holding banners proclaiming “Kill British Soldiers” and burning poppies on Remembrance Day was wrong, there’s no doubt about that. But retaliation in burning their Holy Book? That’s another level entirely. I’m not condoning violence or threats against British soliders, not at all, but people need to get a bit of perspective here.
Burning anyone’s Holy Book is wrong. Burning a Holy Book in retaliation to the lighting of paper-and-plastic fundraising tool just drags you down to a level lower than them. Yes, the poppy is a metaphor, and it’s great that the British people are so passionate all of a sudden after a generation of “Am I bovvered?” culture, but seriously?
A religious text is a sacred object, and not just to those that wronged them. You do realise there are more Muslims in the world than the handful that took part in the burning of the metaphor? That, in fact, scholars want to get their hands on it so that they can understand the religious text? Burning it makes you look like a bigoted, xenophobic fool.
And besides, isn’t that the kind of behaviour that we fought against in the war? I mean, book-burning? What’s next, rounding up the Muslims and putting them all in a ‘labour’ camp?
Wow. Well done Britain. Bravo!
Seems Mister Hitler maybe did infiltrate our society after all.
