Getting to Know Muslims

bekind-rewind:

My brother-in-law…

I never truly understood how much my masjid meant to me, till now..

I’m saddened by the pure ignorance of people. At roughly 2:30am Sunday morning the local Mosque in Corvallis was targeted by an arsonist. Luckily only the administrator’s office was subject to damage due to the quick response of CPD/CFD. It breaks my heart that a whole community has been blamed/targeted for the actions of a single radical individual. Such conduct does not in any way represent Islam or Muslims, rather it goes against it. In Islam, one finds no justification whatsoever on any form of violence against civilians the local Muslim vehemently condemn such abhorred plot and all other forms of Terrorism and Extremism. Islam teaches that God Almighty declares that killing an innocent person unjustly is like killing all of mankind and saving a person’s life is like saving all of mankind. I have lived all my life in Corvallis, and never in my wildest dreams would I believe that we would be subjected to such hate crimes. The local Mosque is a place of worship, a house of god, a second “home” to some, and in no way shape or form a school for extremists. I was hoping that people would have the intellect to differentiate between religion and an individual’s radical actions. Does this mean I need to watch my back wherever I go for the chance that I have been targeted by some radical fanatic. What about our mothers and sisters who wear the religious headdress, how are we supposed to be at peace not knowing if they are safe to go out in public? What have they done to deserve this? Does everyone have to suffer due to one man’s actions? The attempt to burn down the local Mosque is impenetrable evidence that someone else, not underneath the tag of Islam is capable of shaking a community, installing fear, and destruction. The actions of the individual or individuals of this hate crime are beyond doubt TERORISTS. It brings tears to my eyes that such radical fanatics exist. I pray that we all have the capacity to be outspoken when such malicious crimes occur.
